Writing a resume the proper way to please an employer can be a daunting task. The most professional writers often are at their wits end in typing out a mind-blowing resume.
A resume should look professional and so it must be printed on the computer. The font should be readable and the ink to be used should be black. The acceptable fonts to be used are Courier, Verdana, Ariel and Times New Roman. Italics and underlines are to be avoided.
The best font size is 10-12 points. 11-14 points for the heading is the best. You may avoid using Bold.
A Laser printer or a bubble jet printer is best used. A copier machine résumé is bad because there the letters look faded. The resume should look and feel transparent.
The paper size is very important and you will have to choose the right type of paper. Ivory or white is the standard colour of the paper. There should be a matching envelope of the same colour.
The professional paper to be used is a non-erasable 20lb Bond. The paper and the envelope should be wrinkle free. For margins, the standard space to be left out is 1inch on the top and 1.25 inches at the bottom. There is to be a double space between paragraphs and it should be kept short. You should be selling yourself and that should be kept on mind the foremost.
In today’s job scenario, employers like to take risks with less qualified candidates. The recruiters and hiring managers feel that online resources can give them a greater access to the present day candidates than what they had enjoyed in the past. So the modern approach to resume writing is using the resume to win over the employer. He should have ample reasons to choose you. Always remember, he is not only looking to find a people who would work for him. It is a person who would be an efficient worker, a skilled communicator, a people’s person and a person with the right attitude to life. And your résumé should vouch for these qualities in you.
