  • The setup and operation of one or more automatic numerical control machines as assigned.
    Operator is responsible for the proper care and use of machine, material and equipment, as well as following instructions.
  • The design and automatic features of these machines permit the operation of more than one machine or subsequent operations.
  • Know shop mathematics, the characteristics of various metals and be able to secure certain information from prints as required. Checks proper sizes, fits, and finishes as required and record results on paper and or electronic shop floor collection forms.
  • May assemble tools and fixtures as assigned, and make basic machine adjustments and operational/preventive repair.
  • Has worked safely and follow all company procedures.
  • Takes work direction from Chief Engineer, 1st Engineer or Chief Mate.
  • Possess good welding skills with Arc, Gas, TIG and soldering. Being certified is very desirable.
  • Good fabricate brackets, fixtures, etc with welding and fasteners.
  • Fit all kinds of pipe and tubing, threaded, welded or compression fittings.
  • Worked on mooring winches, anchor windlasses, deck cranes.
  • Proficient using lathe, drill press, milling machine, and all portable power hand tools.

Education

Bachelors degree in Arts, American University of Puerto Rico (PR)

Skills

  • Technical training, recognized journeyman apprenticeship, programming.
  • Ability to make set-ups and grind tools.
  • Proper feeds, speeds, coolant, or lubricant.
  • Able to move parts anywhere within work area, as required.
  • Also do general maintenance to equipment, and cleanup to maintain the work are in an orderly condition.
  • Very accurate with very little or no tolerance allowed.
